Disasters and emergencies call for rapid aid. In these situations, LANXESS is quick to provide financial support to offer relief in affected areas.
One example was in summer 2010, when Pakistan was affected by the worst flooding in a century. Over 1,700 people lost their lives, with several million others made homeless. In response to the events, LANXESS immediately donated EUR 100,000 to Kindernothilfe e.V., which provides aid on the ground in conjunction with its partner organizations. A large sum of money collected by employees throughout the world was also doubled by the company and donated to the Kindernothilfe organization. According to its figures, this enabled hundreds of thousands of people to be given urgently needed drinking water, food, hygiene products and tents within the first few weeks.
Employees support aid campaigns
LANXESS provides similarly rapid aid in numerous crisis situations throughout the world. Its U.S. subsidiary LANXESS Corp. donated USD 200,000 for victims of the earthquake tragedy in Haiti in 2010 to supply more than four million tablets and equipment for chemical water treatment. This enabled the provision of around 76 million liters of clean water for at least 20,000 Haitian families.
And when in 2008 an earthquake in south-west China claimed tens of thousands of victims and caused severe devastation, LANXESS China also provided financial support for victims in the earthquake zone via the International Red Cross and called on its workforce to make donations. LANXESS China announced it would contribute two yuan for every one yuan donated by employees. The initiative received spontaneous support from all 900 employees of LANXESS China, with other sites also getting involved in the campaign. Overall, LANXESS donated over USD 150,000 for the earthquake victims.
The sites in Singapore, Australia, Japan, South Korea and India also made donations to the International Red Cross for the victims of the “Nargis” cyclone in Myanmar. Financial aid from LANXESS employees ensured the provision of emergency accommodation, everyday articles and fresh drinking water for approximately 100 families.
