Strong and versatile – these features of high-tech plastics have proven as an ideal qualification for many industrial applications. In this sector, a highly specialized application is wire made of plastic. LANXESS markets these so-called monofilaments under the brand names Perlon, Atlas and Bayco. They are used among other applications in paper machine clothing, technical woven fabrics, trellises and support wires for wine and fruit growing and mooring cables. The monofilaments are produced mainly from polyamides (PA), and their diameter can vary between 0.08 and 6 millimeters. They weigh seven times less than comparable metal wires.
The three attributes that make ATLAS® monofilaments the ideal material for mooring ropes and anchor cables are their high strength, dimensional stability and durability.
